It"s time for a new approach to giving "Premier level players" an opportunity to learn
and improve their game.
The environment of Premier calls for new
thinking and the Rays will be changing with those times.
Due to the abundant amount of Premier
Soccer Clubs in Rhode Island, and the many overlapping
tryout times, the RI Rays will be announcing future plans on May 1, 2012. The environment for trying out has made it nearly
impossible for players to make sound solutions as to what is best for their future. The RI Rays believe the decision to play
on a team should
not be one
that is made under a pressure cooked situation. Also, we know one cannot be in two, or three, places at one time. Players
and their families should have a little time to make this decision.
Players and their families will be
asked to sign contracts, immediately,
with various clubs. Even the professionals have time to make decisions. We feel this process should be carefully considered
and be a positive one. By spreading out the process, it will give players an opportunity to make a sound and positive decision.
With so many Premier clubs
and a limited amount of players, the Rays feel we will not field teams just to have teams. We have experienced the multitude
of problems that Premier teams are running into, and we feel it is more important that we have commitments from players, coaches
, and parents in order for the Rays to give back the same commitment to the players and their families. Yes, winning is the
goal, but it is more important that players get a chance to PLAY on a team that will allow them to increase their skills.
Winning cannot be pre-judged by anyone. It takes TEAMS to participate in games to have an outcome. But, it also takes comparably
skilled players to be considered to play in this environment. If we we cannot provide that experience for the players, we
will not form teams.
